Session: Leadership & Impostor Syndrome: Defeating the Internalized Negative Voice and Living in Your Greatness
Impostor Syndrome is the phenomenon seen in high achieving individuals in which they are constantly plagued by the idea that will be exposed as a fraud. Every mistake, misstep, experience of not-knowing is interpreted as evidence of this fraudulence. 70% of people in US report that they have experienced Impostor Syndrome in their lifetime. The need to prove oneself can be immense which reinforces a central component of Impostor Syndrome – overworking, which produces burnout, lack of balance, and constant sense of vulnerability.
During this keynote, the author of “Own Your Greatness: Overcome Impostor Syndrome and Beat Self-Doubt” will identify the central characteristics of Impostor Syndrome so that you can work to identify it in yourself, your teams and the ways that it shows up in your organizational culture. Dr. Orbé-Austin will share its origin and the particular triggers so you can isolate them and diminish their efficacy in damaging your appreciation of your leadership in the moment. You will leave with an understanding of Impostor Syndrome that you can take with you to continue your process of eliminating Impostor Syndrome in your experience, in the experience of your direct reports and the culture of your organization.
